To Bemis, or not to Bemis, that is the question. And the answer is “to Bemis,” which is where residents can go on June 13 and 14 to see Shakespeare’s Hamlet by Wax Wings Productions, of which Lincoln resident Micah Greene is artistic director.
Greene, who has lived in Lincoln since 2013, is artistic director of Wax Wings Productions, which is taking Hamlet on the road to Lexington, Dover and Somerville as well as Lincoln this month. All performances except those in Somerville are free.
Greene and her husband Patrick Greene, who works for Oxfam America and is also a composer, bought a condo in Lincoln on Valentines’ Day 2013 after falling in love with the town during a visit to the Codman Estate and the Gropius House. “It’s such a peaceful, culture-rich town and it’s so close to Boston—it’s perfect for us,” said Greene.
“Having this love for our (now) hometown of Lincoln, when I decided to make this production a tour, I knew I had to endeavor to bring it here,” said Greene, who grew up in Rhode Island and did an apprenticeship with Boston’s Commonwealth Shakespeare Company after earning a BFA from the University of Rhode Island. “Bemis Hall is such an interesting space, especially for our show. It’s a beautiful space and the chandeliers only add to the setting of our royal Danish court. Although Boston is the company’s home, where we’ve begun to establish a (small) following, we’re looking forward to what our audiences will think here in Lincoln.”
Hamlet will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and June 14, and also at 2 p.m. on June 14. Tickets are free but are limited to 100 per performance, so attendees are asked to click here to RSVP online so the group will know how many audience members to expect.
