We honor veterans: end-of-life and survivor benefits

Veterans and their families have special needs when it comes to end-of-life care, whether related to the unique life and health care experiences of veterans or to the benefits of the Veterans Administration for end-of-life health care, burial benefits, or survivor benefits. “We Honor Veterans” is an initiative of the Veterans Administration and local hospices and other care providers to make sure that veterans receive sensitive and compassionate care and know about all their benefits. This is the story of an antique, a transfer station, and the people in a small town who helped reunite the antique with its owner just as it was about to be unwittingly tossed into a garbage truck. Sounds like it might have been a priceless family heirloom, but actually it was something a bit more utilitarian—the fender from an old utility trailer owned by Jeff Eaton.
